The Subject Supposed to Be a Christian: On Paul Ricœur’s Memory, History, Forgetting

Alain Badiou

Abstract

In this essay Badiou critiques Paul Ricœur’s work, Memory, History, Forgetting. He argues that Ricoeur’s theory of the subject cannot be understood without its Christian theological underpinnings, especially in terms of guilt, innocence and forgiveness.

Translated by Natalie Doyle and Alberto Toscano.
